Tommy Langford provides fans with update on his career
Former British and Commonwealth middleweight champion Tommy Langford (21-4) provided a brief update on his professional boxing career, “Unfortunately, it’s quite complicated. I’ve been hoping that the phone would ring for another opportunity, but sadly it has not.”
Langford’s last fight was a unanimous decision defeat to unbeaten Londoner Lerrone Richards for the Commonwealth super-middleweight title last April in London.
Since then, the opportunities have stalled, despite eager to continue driving forward with sparepartstore.co.uk in his career that has seen him win 21 from 25 fights and lift three major titles.
The ‘Baggies Bomber’ continued, “I’m therefore in two minds about what’s next for me and it’s a very hard decision to make.
“I’ve fallen into a ‘Who needs him?’ category as a fighter, which basically means being picked by a fighter to challenge for their titles is highly unlikely because I’m a high risk with little reward.
“Most promoters would want me on their shows as I always come to win, I’ve been involved in ‘Fight of the Year’ contests so I guarantee excitement and action, and I never say no to any fight.
“But unless the fighter actually wants it then it just isn’t going to happen. And it all comes down to risk and reward really. Most fighters won’t want to fight me because they know they’ll be in for a hard 12 rounds. As I don’t have a title, fighting me brings very little reward but a lot of risk to their records.”
Formerly a Frank Warren fighter, the 30-year-old West Brom FC fan is now signed to local promoter Errol Johnson’s BCB Promotions.
“So, I now have to make a decision on what I plan to do next. I love fighting still, that’s never has been an issue, I’m not worn out and have plenty left to give but also I have to ask myself what are the chances of the big fights and rewarding pay days materialising from that I know I deserve and what sacrifices am I going to have to make in order to be successful in securing something meaningful.
“This is where I’m at, at the moment, just taking my time to make the right decision to ensure it’s the right one!”
